M came home and washed
all the dishes in the sink
trying to be nice.

When’s the right time to
wash winter blankets? Last night
I saw snowflakes fall.

Rake leaves left over
from fall. Clean porch furniture.
Spring into action.

No one waters them.
Tiny cells plead, but TV
seems more important.

Smoothing over the
wrinkles in life takes more cold
cash than hot metal.

Shopped a membership
warehouse store today. Got six
years’ worth of ketchup.

Incrementally
I clean unearthing a clear
space on the table.

Heating system dust -
particles of previous
occupants’ lives, selves.

“We’re domestic,” a
blonde woman tells her daughter
in line at the gate.

Accomplished nothing
’til I took Motrin a whip
that tamed this tiger

Cleaning is like con-
fession. You’re surprised by dirt
under the surface.

Some people like to
cook. Then there’s me who dreads that
thing called dinner hour.

God rest ye merry
gentlemen? I don’t see them
lifting a finger!

Only if you’re not
the one doing the shopping,
cleaning and baking.

My spare bedroom holds
many possibilities
under all that junk.

Inertia roosting
inside me like a hen un-
willing to lay eggs.

HGTV shows
designer homes while I nest
in my own clutter.

Tempting smells - so strong
they nearly satiate the
appetite - drift by.

They’ll watch football. We’ll
cook. Men and women. Hunters
and gatherers still.

If every meal
were cereal, we’d all have
more hours in the day.

I’m the kitchen air
traffic controller, and the
oven my runway.

I start out strong with
good intentions. Sit at the
computer. Day’s shot.

I jot on random
scraps, then lose them. No wonder
I don’t get things done.

Socks multiply when
mated yet produce offspring
that never quite match.

Dishwasher rumbles
like a distant storm. Water
churns, carries debris.

The espresso cups,
sleekly designed, just one more
thing to put away.

I cook mornings so
I can eat evenings. I call
it planning ahead.

Front-load energy
saving washer. Fun to watch
clothes spinning around.
